Flickr a Day 341: ‘Lost in Thought, Lost in Prayers’

Our selection comes at a time of great turmoil for Muslims and other peoples who interact with them because of terrorist attacks against Western nations and conflict with the Islamic State in Syria. The Day taker is poignant reminder of faith as expression of humility rather than aggression and follows last night’s speech by US President Barrack Obama about terrorism and America’s objectives and responsibilities.

Rajarshi Mitra shot self-titled “Lost in Thought, Lost in Prayers” on Nov. 23, 2013, using Nikon D3100 and 50mm f/1.8 lens. Vitals: f/2, ISO 800, 1/60 sec, 50mm. “A child looks on as her family offers the Friday evening “namaz” or prayer at the local mosque”, he says. “She was totally lost in her own little wonderland, present yet so absent from the whole scene—just compelled me to take the photograph”. He captured the moment in Bhopal, which is located in central India.

Rajarshi, who joined Flickr in April 2011, is from Kolkata, but lives in Mumbai, which is about 2,000 kilometers East. He is a brand manager for Home First India. Visit his Facebook to learn more about him.
