A Flower Forest

When my wife drove to Hillcrest today on an errand, I asked her to drop me off for a leisurely walk home to University Heights. Along Maryland Street, just beyond where once was the Butterfly House, I saw (and heard) bees busying about the same kind of purple flowers observed elsewhere a few weeks ago. The timing proved to be interesting, because I lugged along Leica Q2 Monochrom.

I captured three photos; the Featured Image is second of them and the only one manually focused. I didn’t know what to expect from flowers in black and white, and the shots surely surprised me—and not really warmly. That said, bokeh is so pronounced that the perennial shrubs—possibly Pride of Madeira—look like a forest of sorts. Hence, my decision to share the moment. Vitals, aperture manually set: f/2, ISO 200, 1/3200 sec, 28mm; 4:10 p.m. PDT.
