I came upon a blues band playing outside our auto mechanic’s shop on Oct. 16, 2021, while walking to fetch more Orijen dry food for our cats Cali and Neko. The place is closed on Saturdays (and Sundays, too). I listened for a bit before continuing along Adams Avenue, in San Diego’s Normal Heights neighborhood, to Pet Me Please.
My wife met me with the car to take home the 12-pound (5.4 kg) bag of kibble. I plodded back to the service station, where I used Leica Q2 to capture the Featured Image and companion, iPhone 13 Pro to film the one-minute video clip, and my hands to pay for and grab Chickenbone Slim CD “Sleeper”.
These guys must barely have moved, looking at the auto-shutter speed for the first photo. Vitals, aperture manually set for both: f/7.1, ISO 100, 1/50 sec, 28mm; 3:53 p.m. PDT. I took that one upon my return and right after the video. The other: f/5.6, ISO 100, 1/100 sec, 28mm; 3:25 p.m.
The video is considerably brighter and contrasty compared to the two portraits. Different equipment, uneven results. More upsetting, the media file hoster diminished something, such that the details are washed out. I highly recommend viewing the much more satisfying version on my Flickr Photostream.
The band is scheduled to release a new album, “Serve It to Me Hot”, on November 19; I chose to post closer to the disc’s availability than to listening to them busking.
