The monsoonal heatwave continues, which means daily emails announcing yet another Power Saver Rewards event between 4 p.m. and 8:59 p.m. PDT: “You can support the California energy grid, and earn $2/kWh for energy use below your typical use, too. The more energy you can save, the more you can earn”. Really?
We don’t have air conditioning, electric vehicle, or in-apartment laundry—all of which are on the curtail-usage list. We never use the dishwasher. But we do have four fans running constantly. I don’t know whether to thank the utility for magnanimously managing the electric grid or San Deigans for being good neighbors and cutting back—perhaps both.
Whomever deserves praise, I pause to offer it. For I honestly expected some sort of power outage by now—and who knows, one may come when the temperature peaks again in a few days, assuming weather forecasts prove to be accurate.
With that introduction, I present the Featured Image—taken today using Leica Q2. Vitals, aperture manually set: f/11, ISO 100, 1/25 sec, 28mm; 6:01 p.m. The electrical substation is located along Adams Avenue, here in University Heights, and hugs Florida on one side and the alley separating Alabama on the other.
Besides bodily discomfort, we suffer some other minor heat nuisances. Two that stand out: Fan noise so loud that watching television is pointless (not bad) and ants uncharacteristically invading the bathroom and my office (not good)—in search of what is a mystery, as no food is stored or consumed in either space.
