Yesterday, I drove my daughter and her best friend to Balboa Park, where he pushed her around in a wheelchair. She will require rehabilitation, which starts next week, before being able to properly walk. Her left foot is painful and not fully functional, possibly from neurological damage. But her cognitive capabilities look good.

We are now on day 50 since she was found unconscious and suffered cardiac arrest. Our girl was released from an in-patient physical rehab facility on April 11, 2023. Being wheeled about the park was a big outing for her; meanwhile, I walked around, looking for photo ops. The young women in the Featured Image is one of them.

They made an impression for clothing and camera. After weeks of cool or wet weather, sunny warmth basked cloud-weary San Diegians: 22.2 Celsius (72 Fahrenheit); warmer today, by the way, with 28.9 C (84 F). I saw plenty of women in shorts, some in jeans, and none others in long dresses.

Something else: When I first came upon them, the blonde held up a Leica rangefinder to shoot a portrait of the other woman as she threw back her hair. I didn’t at first recognize the camera because of the lens, which looked something like the Summaron-M 28mm f/5.6, Silver Chrome. I would expect f/2—maybe f/1.4—for portraits, so that’s likely not the lens but definitely something like it.

I used Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to make the moment. Vitals: f/4.9, ISO 50, 1/800 sec, 230mm (film equivalent); 3:44 p.m. PDT. Soon after, the longer haired woman gently bit down on a cookie covered in some pink confection while being photographed with the Leica rangefinder. Presumably, they created content for someone or some platform.

In the days ahead, look for more shots and stories from my afternoon Balboa Park walk.
