Avril Lavigne’s single “Girlfriend” is available in more than a half-dozen languages, including French, German, Japanese, and Mandarin. Well, not the whole song in each language but the catchy chorus, anyway. Music is a universal language.
But is it me, or does the chorus sound somewhat—or maybe a whole lot—like the chorus from Rolling Stones song “Get Off My Cloud?”
Similar or not, the single’s release with the chorus in several prominent languages is smart marketing. That said, does the song’s girlfriend stealing topic mesh with some of these cultures? I figure France is OK, but what about China? I noticed that there is no Hindi version of the song, which probably is a good idea.
Her Website uses Google translation to make content available in 10 other languages besides in English. Smart.
