Great Journalism, Unexpected

My respect for National Geographic news reporting—yes, news—grows with each day’s online reading. September 9 story “Inside the Vast (and Growing) Global Trade in Stolen Smart Phones” is goddamn good example. Stories like this require time, research, and global—not national mindset—like the astute and counter-the-mob reporting about Cecil the lion. I resubscribed to the magazine last month because of online news accuracy and thoroughness that provides context.

The photos may be fantastic, and evergreen stories accompanying, that appear in print (or digital edition). But whatever the stereotype, something greater goes on at Nat’l Geo online. Keep it coming, please.
