The story behind the photo gives the Day to Miguel Tejada-Flores, who shot self-titled “The Hug” on May 2, 2015, using Panasonic DMC-GX7 and Lumix G VARIO 14-42/F3.5-5.6 II lens. Vitals: f/4, ISO 200, 1/2500 sec, 14mm.
Miguel, who joined Flickr in November 2007, is by profession a screenwriter not a photographer. But both creative capabilities are about storytelling, which again, is what makes the capture all the more compelling. He explains:
A moment of unscripted, heartfelt emotion as two fathers—one American, one Japanese—share a hug at the wedding of their children, a Japanese bride and an Oregonian groom. Taken just after a ritual part of the wedding, in which both children must ‘pull away’ from the family ties that hold them to their parents, so they can subsequently link their new lives, with accompanying unseen but no less real ties, to one another.
From Talent, Oregon—and such appropriate name for what he does—Miguel reveals his full, ah, talents at personal blog “Ruminations in the Multiverse“. IMDB reveals his film credits.
