We begin the first of three days ode to the Foveon sensor, which produces a distinct and unmistakable color signature. Inside Sigma compacts, with their fixed prime lenses, the result: Super sharp photos that are shockingly detailed when viewed at 100-percent size. Foven’s magic comes in part by using separate blue, green, red layers to produce rich, realistic colors.
We start with self-titled “Building Building”, which iKobe! captured on Oct. 19, 2015, using Sigma DP1 Merrill. Vitals: f/8, ISO 100, 8 sec, 19mm. You can’t really appreciate the amazing detail without looking larger. I owned the original DP1 and follow-on DP2 at one time. Merrill successors are even better.
