Tell Us What You Really Think

Some people wear their heart on their sleave, as the adage goes. I still see Harris-Walz signs around my San Diego neighborhood of University Heights. I know lots of folks who are downright distraught that Kamala lost the election. Honestly, they should be relieved that she did. The former vice president wasn’t ready, if she ever will be, to become Commander in Chief.

As for Donald Trump, he gets a pass from me through the first 100 days. Peace in the Middle East and between Russia and Ukraine would be major milestones, if his administration can facilitate such outcomes.

Elsewhere, I think of the remaking of the Executive Branch like a home renovation. You got to knock down some walls, gut the kitchen, remove asbestos, lead paint, and mold, and bring the entire structure up to code. I lived in the Washington, DC area for a couple decades. Government rot is obvious to anyone willing to look.

If Trump makes the Federal agencies leaner, more efficient, and less likely to waste our tax dollars, I’m good with that. But the devil is in the details, as they say. Either Team Trump makes government more accountable and transparent, or the Elon Musk chainsaw leaves chaos everywhere. One-hundred days. The clock clicks onward.

Returning to the topic of heart on the sleave, the American flag in the Featured Image is the most poignant expression—that I have seen—of someone’s opinion about the current state of the country. No Harris-Walz sign is needed to show how this neighbor feels about the election and Trump as president. It’s effective commentary and free speech at its finest. Anyone can stick a prefabricated sign onto the lawn. The upside-down flag is more audacious and active choice.

The photo comes from Nikon Zf and NIKKOR 40mm f/2 (SE) lens, today. Vitals: f/11, ISO 200, 1/200 sec, 40mm; 10:57 a.m. PST. Post-production note: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom’s Artificial Intelligence feature changed the license plate to a different designation when I tried to obscure the numbers. Hell, that’s slick.
