Flickr a Week 41a: ‘He’s Coming To Get You’

We celebrate Sunday with self-titled “He’s Coming To Get You“, which Charlie Marshall captured on May 1, 2019, using Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens. Vitals: f/8, ISO 2500, 1/320 sec, 150mm. “I saw this wolf in the HIghland Wildlife Park near Kincraig,” Charlie says of the Scotland shot. “At the time, he was chasing another wolf”. The photo is a keeper for composition and drama.

“I’ve been a keen photographer since I got my first camera at the age of six (I saved up ice-cream wrappers and sent off for a small, leaky plastic camera)”, Charlie says. “I spent a lot of time in my twenties and thirties using disposable cameras, which forced me to focus really hard on composition because there was nothing else to focus on”.

Flickr a Week 34: ‘Mel’s Drive-In’

For the previous 33 weeks, I wondered what photo from Thomas Hawk would make the series—something that was inevitable; more when than if. I figured that the time would come when I’d know the one, and self-titled “Mel’s Drive-In” is it. What a splendid shot by every meaningful measure, but same could be said of anything in his Photostream. Funny, though, the eatery is in Florida and not California, where Thomas lives, and was location for film “American Graffiti” that so prominently made Mel’s an essential element of the story.

He captured the moment on July 14, 2019, using Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM lens. Vitals: f/2.8, ISO 2500, 1/400 sec, 24mm.

Flickr a Week 2: ‘Antwerp’

What can you say about a photo that has more than 400,000 views? Koen Jacobs specializes in “urban and street photography”, and he’s an art form—or so says me. I came to his Photostream by way of image “The Underpass“, which I later learned, from his website, was chosen as the cover for musician/director Rafa Russo single “You Crossed My Mind”.

So-o-o-o, quite coincidentally, and surprisingly, something else: I prepared the first Flickr-a-Week posts in late December 2019. On the same day I finished this one, the 19th, the image-sharing service picked the “Top 25 Photos on Flickr in 2019 From Around The World“. Koen’s “undeniable dilemma” made the list. Oh my!
