Guatemala: One Year and Five Weeks

My sister’s sojourn in Central America continues, as she and husband Howie enter their second year as full-time missionaries.

She writes:

The past [two] weeks have been busy for Howie and only somewhat for me. The UK Group left on the 9th and a construction/medical group from North Carolina arrived on the 10th. Howie spent [two] weeks getting things ready for the construction group. The project was to begin to build a temporary facility in Duenas for the program and church when the funding comes in to re-build the current church. The team of men was wonderful to work with and they accomplished much even though they worked less hours a couple of days to go to an outing in the City and finish early the last day…

The first day the construction group arrived, I cooked the evening meal (spaghetti, bread, salad, and [two] snacks) for 21 people…I will say that this group enjoys eating. The whole time, I had to remind the girls to prepare more food than normal as they are working hard all day and get hungry…

Howie started to build a temporary storage area for the furnishings in the house that need to be moved to make room for the office furnishings. The area is directly outside the main house entrance and is a car port normally. The new area will be enclosed for storage and be offices for the receptionist, Mario and Don Carlos.

Tomorrow, the girls and I will pack the personal items that belong to the Kellys from the living room and store them in a closet off the living room. Then Howie and his crew can move the furniture to the storage area. Howie hopes to pack things very well and hopefully have enough room for some of the excess off furnishings.

I really have to give my sister a hard time for talking about people without identifying who they are. Who are Ben, Don Carlos, the Kellys, Mario and the girls? Oh, and the photographer(s) could be anyone, so no credit is given.
