Joy in the Midst of Pandemic

Yesterday, while walking up Monroe Ave. on the west side of San Diego’s University Heights neighborhood, I came upon an unexpected sign of hope—and maybe a little despair—strangely appropriate as Mother’s Day approaches and the SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2)—aka COVID-19pandemic rages onward. What a time to be pregnant or to give birth!

I used Leica Q2 to capture the Featured Image, which is close-cropped. Getting closer to the sign would have been most sensible shooting scenario, but wide-open windows made me cautious not to disturb the adults inside the house, or collaterally, their new bundle of joy. So I stepped back beyond the fence and out of view. Vitals, aperture preset, manually focused: f/8, ISO 100, 1/160 sec, 28mm; 10:15 a.m. PDT.
