The Featured Image is bit of a metaphor—and not one I considered when composing. On Sept. 1, 2020, while walking along Mission at Mississippi in San Diego’s University Heights neighborhood, I observed what looked like brand new Verizon Wireless gear on a utility pole. I vaguely remembered seeing a work crew hoisted up a lift couple days earlier. Is the hardware supporting 5G, perhaps? You tell me.
If you follow the Internet conspiracies (I don’t) about the origins of SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2), which causes COVID-19, 5G is blamed. In this photo, which I captured using Leica Q2, you could read it as “Stop 5G” or there is only “one way” to the future of cellular wireless. Choose one or neither, but hence the unintended metaphor—and I suppose that should be plural, eh? Vitals, aperture manually set: f/8, ISO 100, 1/200 sec, 28mm; 2:04 p.m. PDT.
