Flickr a Day 166: ‘Life Through the Eyes of the Orphan’

Photos of needy children in some developing countries are so often cliché. Sad face, wide eyes, and even emaciation. Self-titled “Life Through the Eyes of the Orphan” takes the Day for being something more. You can feel for the kids without feeling manipulated to guilt by the image.

Nithi Anand used Canon EOS 500D and Sigma 17-70mm lens to shoot the portrait on Sept. 2, 2014. Vitals: f/2.8, ISO 1600, 1/40 sec, 17mm. He captured the moment for India-based Samugam Trust, which stands for Social Awareness Mutual Upliftment Guidance and Motivation. The self-described “Non- Governmental, community-based organization” is ” committed towards rural development and rehabilitation irrespective of caste and creed”.

From Pondichèry, India, Nithi lives in Paris, France. He joined Flickr in February 2010.
