Flickr a Week 15: ‘Passover’

For one of the most celebrated Jewish holidays, we present a small family gathering that is sadly evocative for 2020. The COVID-19—aka SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2)—pandemic compels people to socially isolate (e.g. to self-quarantine), as a means of slowing spread of the infectious contagion. For forced intimacy, and perhaps sentiment that the disease would pass over the household, the Seder meal will mean something more this year.

Michelle Carl used used Nikon D40 to capture self-titled “Passover” on March 29, 2010. Vitals: f/3.5, ISO 450, 1/30 sec, 18mm. The portrait takes the week for black-and-white portraiture, composition, perspective, and storytelling. Michelle joined Flickr in November 2006, but she hasn’t contributed new photos for six years.
