Now here is a candid shot that I surely recall taking but not why it was never posted here. The Featured Image, captured using Sigma DP1, catches Amazon head-honcho Jeff Bezos—when he looked more like the quintessential meek tech geek than the ripped, overly-confident, retail monopolist mogul that he is today. Venue: The D6 conference in Carlsbad, Calif., May 23, 2008. Vitals: f/4, ISO 200, 1/25 sec, 28mm (film equivalent). You read the shutter speed right.
I loved that camera, but it didn’t love me. The Foveon sensor produced amazing photos. But quirks, like slow write-to-SD-card times and disappointing low-light performance, made my time with the DP1 short-lived. As for Bezos, he is not someone I ever interviewed—and this portrait is our closest interaction.
