The Bat Cave! Hiding in plain sight. Who would have guessed? I should have believed the angry TikTokers whining about the Dark Knight fleeing crime-infested Gotham for San Diego. What good is capturing criminals when the DA won’t prosecute and they return to the streets in mere minutes? No wonder he headed West.
Problem: Catch-and-release policies are rampant across California. Prosecution deferrals are increasingly commonplace. Can the Caped Crusader save us? Please!
Coincidentally, Batman’s presence—or lack thereof—nags me every weekend now. Two years ago this month, we cancelled AT&T U-verse, switching to streaming and over-the-air broadcasts. Among the channels available via antenna: MeTV, which carries the 1960’s Batman show, starring Adam West, on Saturday evenings. But, unexpectedly, MeTV’s San Diego affiliate stopped carrying the network, starting May 1, 2024. Yeah, eighteen cruel days ago.
We mostly played the channel in the background, some evenings and late night. Perry Mason. Gone. Twilight Zone. Gone. Saturday night sci-fi, including the original Star Trek. Gone. If that Bat door opened into the TV station, it would feel my fists bang for admittance and a conversation with the program manager. But that ain’t happening.
Sometime soon, I will write about the perils of streaming. Cord-cutting is no longer affordable. As such, I am letting all our streaming subscriptions expire one by one. We’re not massive television/video watchers anyways. Criterion Channel and Paramount+ were the first non-renewals, just weeks ago. Prime Video goes bye-bye with our Amazon Prime account in a few weeks. That’s a second story for you, soon.
I used Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra to shoot the Featured Image, somewhere in North Park. Vitals: f/1.7, ISO 12, 1/580 sec, 23mm (film equivalent); 11:37 a.m. PDT, yesterday.
