One Crazy Inauguration Day

A little after Noon, today, Donald Trump became President for the second time—47th and previously 45th. During his acceptance speech he promised to immediately secure the Southern Border, asserted there are two genders—male and female (and I agree)—pledged to reduce inflation and create jobs, and thanked God.

As he stopped by different venues during the day’s events, he signed a rash of executive actions (e.g. orders), which include: ending diversity, equity, and inclusion programs across the Federal government; recognizing biological sex, not gender identity; designating international cartels (think Mexican) as terrorist organizations; and withdrawing the United States from the Paris (Climate) Agreement and World Health Organization, among a slew of others.

As widely anticipated, with respect to people arrested/prosecuted for the U.S. Capitol incident on Jan. 6, 2021: He commuted the sentences of 14 individuals and granted a “complete and unconditional pardon” to the rest. The number is somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 individuals, depending on state of prosecution.

The so-called insurrection was not. No one stormed the Capitol with guns or other armaments, with the intent to overthrow the United States government; nor could they have. In Aug. 2, 2021 missive “Some Common-Sense Perspective“, I showed what a real, armed insurrection looks like—and it was nothing like what occurred seven months earlier. The President is right to put an end to these political prosecutions punishing Americans for committing the crime of what? Supporting Trump.
