Another archived find, once again saved by Google Photos, is a mug Mom sent for my birthday nine years ago. The thing isn’t my style, and I fumed she spent so much money shipping the bulky thing. Mom was sweet and notoriously generous, but her resources were limited. I ached when seeing the postal costs.
As such, the coffee cup languished until Annie recently remembered it tucked away. She kindly sends black Café Bustelo to the hospital with me, which saves $2.60 (buying Starbucks from the facility’s eatery). The mug is too big, but that’s okay. Taking the present along, I am reminded of Mom when visiting our daughter.
I used Nokia Lumia Icon to capture the Featured Image, on July 11, 2014. Vitals: f/2.4, ISO 100. 1/120 sec, 26mm (film equivalent); 6 p.m. PDT. The photo is the original, composed as shot and unaltered.
But there is more to this story, which demands your reading “Nokia Lumia Icon Takes s Trip“, Jan. 31, 2015. I so liked the smartphone’s usability, and camera, I bought one for mom. Unfortunately, a laundry service inadvertently hauled the device off to Canada, from which the Windows Phone never returned. You got to love Microsoft’s tracking utility, which let me monitor the journey to oblivion—in real time. Oh the strange connections, right? Mom sent the mug, which I photographed with the same model Nokia that she would later lose.
Okay, so let’s discuss the post’s title, for which I intend two meanings. The first is more obvious: family tragedy that pulls me to the hospital. The other: “Java Blues” is a song by Rick Danko that I most certainly recall playing in 1977 when I was one of WMEB-FM’s (more popular) student DJs at University of Maine Orono.
Not the most sophisticated lyrics:
I got those Java blues
Coffee’s got me
Java blues
Oh coffee, coffee, coffee
Java blues
Coffee’s got me
Java blues
But you get the point.
