While walking about our neighborhood of University Heights, today, my wife and I spontaneously decided to get in the car and drive to Ocean Beach; an errand beckoned us. Once completed, we continued onwards to Sunset Cliffs.
I already carried Nikon Zf with NIKKOR 40mm f/2 (SE) lens attached. However, what was needed: NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR. So Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra pinch-hit for the long shots.
Let’s start with the Featured Image, which comes from the camera. Vitals: f/11, ISO 100, 1/250 sec, 40mm; 11:43 a.m. PST. This one is a bit oversaturated; all the others are truer to color. The second shot shows more clearly where the people were in relation to the ocean and cove below. Vitals: f/11, ISO 220, 1/125 sec, 40mm; 11:45 a.m.
The third, taken with the S25 Ultra, closes in on the same group of people. That’s a helluva good 10x zoom shot for a smartphone—even for some cameras. Vitals: f/3.4, ISO 32, 1/400 sec, (synthetic) 230mm (digital and optical zoom); 11:43 a.m.
The next photo returns to Nikon Zf. Look closely, a single pelican joins the other birds. Vitals: f/11, ISO 100, 1/400 sec, 40mm; 11:47 a.m.
Number five is identical to the previous photo. The Zf features an easily accessed switch for toggling to black and white. The camera captures color as NEF (e.g. Nikon RAW) and monochrome as JPG. Obviously, vitals are the same.
The set ends with a close-up from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Vitals: f/3.4, ISO 32, 1/2000 sec, (synthetic) 230mm (digital and optical zoom); 11:37 a.m.
