Unless mistaken, my wife and I saw this pull-trailer promoting GoCamp, which rents camper vans, parked on Florida Street here in University Heights. I perused the company’s website: Including duplicates, 46 vehicles are available from San Diego to the destination of your choice.

Based on interior—exterior, not so much—I rather fancy Van Luca: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or Gia, which “is a 2009 Ford Econoline 150 Chariot hi-top conversion”. They are available for $179 and $145 per night, respectively. Neither can be driven one-way; got to bring them back. The Benz burns diesel, which is something of a liability because of high costs; the Ford is a gas-guzzler.

Minimum rental this time of year is two nights. But, hey, that’s okay because you can “enjoy all the perks of vanlife with none of the hassles”, GoCamp promises. “Everything you need is included—bedding, dishware and cookware, camp chairs, and more. Rent one of our fully-outfitted camper vans and you’ll get to spend less time on the boring packing and more time on the fun stuff, like planning your adventure”.

Both vans sleep two, but beware the big, extra charge should you bring fido or frisky: $125 pet fee. Ouch!

Neighbors on my street clearly regularly rent out a camper van. Could it be through this company or another? I had just assumed their own home-grown Airbnb on wheels. There are plenty of social media marketplaces to promote their rig. Maybe they GoCamp!

I used Leica Q2 to capture the Featured Image on Oct. 20, 2022. Vitals, aperture manually set: f/5.6, ISO 800, 1/2000 sec, 28mm; 3:30 p.m. PDT. This is one of those situations where the shutter speed dial moved when the camera brushed against my back. So that 1/2000 sec is accidentally set.

Composition of the crop isn’t what I would normally choose. Those eight palm trunks demanded to be included, and I couldn’t ignore their pleas.
