What do I know about anything? Third weekend of the month is the book sale at the local library, from which I walked home via Park Blvd. Where Meade and Mission meet the street in a quasi-triangle, there is the University Heights pillar. Approaching, I observed a group gathered and milling about; well, that piqued my curiosity.
Passing through them, I could see from the men’s T-Shirts that they were members of a dance company. I wondered if a public demonstration might be coming or perhaps people were being trained to dance; meaning, everything was educational. Observation led me to presume that they were publicly practicing (and maybe teaching), deliberately outdoors on an absolutely gorgeous, unseasonably warm day; high temperature topped 25 degrees Celsius (78 Fahrenheit).
The activity could also promote the dance company, Querencia, which is based in Boston. They’re in San Diego for the Big Salsa Festival, which wraps up tomorrow.
After moving beyond, and at that moment knowing nothing about the group, I stopped to shoot some photos using Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Whatever they were going to do, it sure seemed interesting enough.
But I encountered an unexpected distraction and interruption that prevented capturing some of the best dance moves. A young guy walking with two other people blocked the field of view as he asked if I was trying to take a photo of him. Ah, no. The question was a come-on so that he could speak to me, and I kept it to mere seconds.
His church was holding an event on the balcony outdoor space at Kairoa Brewing Co., located about two blocks further along Park Blvd. He handed me a card that presumably guaranteed admission. I wondered what church would meet at the pricey, New Zealand cuisine-style restaurant. I should have sought an answer before writing this post.
The card, for Selah Church, boldly states that: “You’re Invited” and “Interest Gathering”, which I assumed meant a regular meet-and-greet to witness about Jesus Christ. However, Selah Church is “coming to San Diego in the Fall of 2026”, according to the temporary website. I missed an interesting opportunity to learn about the group. I should have taken the invitation more seriously but brushed it off because of my displeasure with the inviter.
